Air Fryer edition - Unlock the secrets of air frying + a special recipe inside!
Welcome to a mini guide to mastering your air fryer!
Hello, lovely rebels
This is one for my fellow air frying fans. In this edition of Rebel Bites, I'll be sharing the magic of air frying with you. With the launch of "The Vegan Air Fryer,” I wanted to dive a bit deeper and share a few hints and tips with you.
So, let's crank up our air fryers and get ready to cook!
My top air frying tips;
An air fryer is basically a mini (very powerful) oven. So cooking things like potatoes, veg takes a fraction of the time it would in the oven.
Some things are best cooked directly on the basket ie veg & potatoes so air circulates around and everything gets crispy), other things can be cooked in a tray - think saucy things/cakes/breads etc.
For evenly cooked delights, give your basket a good shake midway through cooking. It ensures every piece gets its moment in the hot air spotlight.
No overcrowding: Give your food some breathing room in the basket. Air circulation is key to achieving that perfect golden crispness.
Preheat for perfection: Just like your traditional oven, preheating your air fryer ensures your food cooks evenly from the get-go.
Keep It clean: A clean air fryer is a happy air fryer. Regular cleaning prevents smoke and keeps flavours fresh.
All air fryers are different - get to know your own model for best results.
Don't try to cook cakes or bakes in silicone trays - you'll get a soggy bottom! Use a metal tray.

A Special Recipe Just for You - I'm sharing an exclusive recipe directly from "The Vegan Air Fryer"
Crusted tofu, peas & chips
A take on 'fish & chips' this is a fun recipe to make and is a great one for the family. Marinating the tofu in soy and sriracha before breading adds tons of flavour and although not traditional - I think it works.
Notes;
The tofu and peas are delicious in a sandwich!
Serves - 2-4
Prep - 10 minutes
Cooking - 20 minutes
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt & black pepper
Oil spray
For the tofu;
300g firm tofu, pressed and cut into 12 slices
3 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp sriracha
For the chips
500g potatoes, cut into wedges
1 tsp garlic granules
100g breadcrumbs mixed with black pepper & a pinch of sea salt
For the pea mash;
300g peas - defrosted
1 gerkin
1 tbsp olive oil
Sea salt
2 tbsp natural yogurt
Handful of fresh mint leaves
For the tofu;
Cut the tofu into strips.
Add the soy, sriracha and 1 tbsp olive oil to a bowl
Coat the tofu gently.
Let marinate for 10 minutes while the potatoes start cooking.
For the potatoes;
Pre-heat the air fryer to 180c
In the bowl, mix the potatoes, 1 tbsp olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic granules. Toss to combine.
Add to a baking tray and cook on 180c for 20 minutes.
Shake a few times throughout the cooking.
After 10 minutes, start to cook the tofu in batches in the other tray.
Dip tofu into the bread crumbs and coat all sides
Place each breaded tofu in an air fryer silicone tray and repeat.
Give the tofu a good spray of oil.
Cook on 200c for 6–7 minutes, turn halfway through.
Repeat with all the slices.
To make the pea mash;
In the meantime, add all the ingredients to your food processor or blender.
Blitz until you get a slightly chunky mash.

Serve the tofu with the pea mash and chips.
